Secret Ingredient for Energy – Shilajit

Happy New Year!

I hope your year is off to a great start – I am sure you have felt the ‘wave’ of energy around all of us – from the fresh vibe of a new year, to all the world events, weather conditions and to two full moons in January.

What does all this mean?

Lots of energy in the atmosphere and all around us! For some, it can be energizing and for some it can be depleting. One thing I want to share that is helping me as I navigate all the changes and energy in my life is Shilajit. It is my secret ingredient to sustained energy.

What is Shilajit?

An amazing substance that positively enhances sustained energy and overall health! I am in love with this substance!

Shilajit is an ancient herbal substance containing over 85 minerals and trace elements the human body needs to function optimally and fulvic acid which helps the body absorb these minerals at a cellular level. Shilajit has been consumed as a dietary supplement for thousands of years in Asia because of the many benefits it provides.

Shilajit has been classified as an adaptogen, which means it helps the body adapt or process both internal and external stressors. It has been used for thousands of years to fight stress and fatigue, while rejuvenating and regenerating tired cells.

Ok, there is a lot of science and big fancy words to describe how it works and what it does. To learn more, I recommend this site: https://www.authenticshilajit.com/real-shilajit-faq.html

The brand I have been using is Lotus Blooming Herbs.

How is it helping me?

I take a small amount each morning, with some Ginger tea, immediately when I wake up. Taking it on an empty stomach helps the absorption factor.

Benefits:

  • I feel sustained energy all day long, no grumpy hunger cravings, no ‘high’s/low’s from caffeine

  • Simply I just feel better.

  • Increased clarity and focus

  • Better digestion

  • Helps me stay warmer in these cold months (over here on the side of the world ).

A combination of all the above factors supports my body in maintaining optimal temperature and balance.

Where did I learn about his?

Two years ago, when I was living in the Himalayas and taking my yoga teacher training course and Ayuverda workshops, I was having a lot of digestion issues and ‘monkey mind’ (difficulty making decisions, focus, etc.) The Ayurveda doctor I was working with taught me about Shilajit and it was a game changer for me. All the benefits described here and more.
I stopped taking it when I moved to Bali and found myself craving it again as winter came upon us here. It is safe to take anytime of year and overall a gentle yet powerful ingredient to support overall health. It will be different for each person, yet worth looking into and doing more research.

 How to take it:

Shilajit is available in liquid and powder forms. Always administer supplements according to instructions. If you buy the supplement in liquid form, dissolve a portion the size of a grain of rice or a pea size in liquid and drink one to three times a day (depending on instructions). Or you can take shilajit powder twice a day with milk. The recommended dose of shilajit is 300 to 500 mg per day. Speak with your doctor before taking shilajit

Shilajit side effects

Although this herb is natural and safe, you shouldn’t consume raw or unprocessed shilajit. Raw shilajit may contain heavy metal ions, free radicals, fungus, and other contaminations that can make you sick. Whether you purchase online or from a natural or health food store, make sure shilajit is purified and ready for use.

Because this is considered an herbal approach to health, shilajit isn’t monitored for quality, purity, or strength by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Carefully research your options of where to purchase it and choose a reputable source.

Don’t take shilajit if you have sickle cell anemiahemochromatosis (too much iron in your blood), or thalassemia. It’s possible to be allergic to this supplement. Stop taking shilajit if you develop rash, increased heart rate, or dizziness.
